G Fuel Review - Energy Formula (2024) - Lift Vault (1)

Taking a quick break from reviewing pre workouts, this is a review of a supplement focused on gamers instead of athletes. G Fuel is probably the biggest gaming supplement company out there right now, so I figured I’d check out their flagship product: the G Fuel Energy Formula.

The G Fuel Energy Formula is a gaming supplement designed by Gamma Labs to increase focus and reaction time for gamers. It has 0 grams of sugar, 140 mg of caffeine, and proprietary blends for energy, focus, and antioxidants.

I’ll be walking you through my experience with this gaming supplement, who I think this product may be right for, the ingredient label, and where you can buy it if you’re interested.

My Experience

G Fuel is the first gaming supplement I’ve tried and based on the ingredient label I went in with limited expectations. This simply didn’t look like it would measure up to most of the strong pre workouts I was used to taking.

Ultimately, my expectations seemed to be correct. This is a very average product that is clearly marketed toward beginners and individuals with limited experience with pre workouts and other more hardcore energy products. It gave me a moderate boost in energy and focus, which would be expected based on the amount of caffeine in the serving.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – I just am not the target audience for this product, but it could be right for someone looking to start taking energy supplements for the first or second time. I had a friend try it as well, someone with a lower caffeine tolerance than me, and they felt a much stronger effect from G Fuel. So if you are not a big caffeine junkie like me, you may find G Fuel to be all the energy you need.

Right off the bat, the caffeine dosage is small, just 140 mg. I really like my pre workouts to have at least 300 mg to 350 mg of caffeine, so this was a huge miss right away for me.

I also was skeptical of the other ingredients, as they are contained within a variety of proprietary ingredient blends. I provide more thoughts on this below, but I can summarize my thoughts on the label by saying it is definitely using proprietary blends to hide tiny doses of ingredients and that the ingredients they’re including in the various blends don’t even align with the stated goal of the blend in some cases (e.g. including taurine and L-Citrulline Malate in an energy ingredient blend).

Flavor

I tried the “Peach Iced Tea” and “Tropical Rain” flavors and both were pretty tasty. They both a little trouble mixing with the water and had a somewhat chalky mouthfeel, but I’d say G Fuel is has good flavors and is reasonably easy to drink.

After Effects

G Fuel energy formula wears off in a very smooth fashion. There is no significant crash or negative side effects after taking it. My friend who tried it felt “shaky” for about 10 minutes while the G Fuel was “ramping up,” but also reported feeling no negative side effects. Given the tame ingredient list, this is what I expected.

Who is this Product For?

This product is good for people that are new to energy supplements and looking for something to give them an extra edge in the game, the office, or just day to day. If your experience with energy supplements or energy drinks has been coffee and Red Bull, then you’ll probably enjoy G Fuel.

If you’re looking for the next level up, then I’d recommend something like Overtime Nootropic, Pulse Pre Workout, or Game Day Pre Workout instead.

G Fuel Ingredient Label

The “Energy Complex” has taurine and L-Citrulline Malate in it, which is immediately suspect. They aren’t really energy ingredients and are typically seen as endurance or pump ingredients (though I’ll admit that a “Pump Complex” wouldn’t make sense for a gaming supplement). Glucuronolactone, a precursor to taurine, is concerning for the same reasons as taurine itself (again, it’s not really an energy ingredient and definitely is not stimulant). The N Acetyl-L-Carnitine dosage is tiny, well below any clinical dosage (all I know is that it’s equal to or below 150 mg, but I can’t tell by how much).

The “Focus Complex” has ATP in it… despite ATP being an ingredient for improving muscle contraction and power, not focus. L-Tyrosine and N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine can be solid ingredients for improving concentration and focus, but it’s impossible to determine if they’re included in sufficient doses here.

I don’t really have any opinion on the antioxidant complex.

Summary

G Fuel energy complex is an entry level gaming supplement that is good for beginners, but not for anyone seeking the “next level” of energy supplementation. It’s relatively small dose of caffeine and underdosed proprietary blends leave a lot to be desired for the discerning energy fiend.

Pros

  • $0.75 per serving
  • Good flavors
  • No crash

Cons

  • Pretty weak – you’d probably need 2 scoops to get a decently strong effect
  • Proprietary blends make it impossible to access doses of critical ingredients
